Tuesday, May 4, 2010

Walking ManWED. MAY 12th, 6-8pm: Be a part of this annual effort, spearheaded by Walking Man Brewing, that recognizes an Oregon brewing legacy while benefiting the quality of NW beer! We’ll have a tap list only found at Saraveza: Sasquatch Legacy ‘08, ‘09, ‘10 and Jim Caldwell tribute beer, Walking Man Iron Man IPA. With each Sasquatch Legacy Project beer poured, $1 will go to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation’s Brewing Scholarship Program.  Each Legacy dollar raised will be matched by Saraveza and donated to the Caldwell family.

This year’s Legacy is a NW Imp. Oatmeal Porter. Walking Man’s head brewer, Jacob Leonard describes the beer; “Sweet citrus, with dank pine and dark rich chocolate.”

The Iron Man IPA is a VERY hoppy beer made with honey and agave nectar in the kettle. Jim, who was responsible for the beautiful Walking Man iron work and loved tequila and honey, went missing a few months ago.

ABOUT THE BEERS:

‘08 LEGACY - Imp Vienna (a Saraveza staff favorite!). Brewed by Corey Blodgett of McMenamins (PDX) & Jacob Leonard of Walking Man (Stevenson, WA)
‘09 LEGACY - Belgian IPA. Brewed by Patrick Miller (homebrewer) and Vasilios Glestos of Pyramid (PDX)

The Release of Double Mountain’s “Bonne Idée”!!!

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Double Mountain BreweryThursday, April 29, 6-9pm: We’re so proud and excited to be hosting the release of Double Mountain‘s Oregon Farmhouse Ale!  So excited, in fact, that we’re making some tasty free snacks to pair with the new brew!

Named “Bonne Idée”, which is French for “good idea,” this beer is 8+%, brewed broadly in the style of a big Saison. It features a yeast blend of 80% Wy’East 3726 (the strain selected for Cheers To Belgian Beers) and 20% of our house Kolsch ale yeast. The malt bill is Gambrinus 2-row Pilsner with additions of malted wheat, Vienna malt and some Dark Munich malt, and it is respectfully hopped with Perle, Newport and Cascade. The hops pair nicely in the aroma with the spicy esters from the yeast; the mouthfeel is big and sumptuous, with a complex set of flavors; the finish is long and more-ish, with a noticably hoppy backbone. In a nutshell, this is another rocked-out Double Mountain version of an archetypal style.

Come at 6pm and enjoy some housemade Boudin Blanc sausages made specifically to compliment the new brew! And if you are lucky you’ll win some schwag brought to you by Double Mountain’s brewers Matt and Charlie!!

Vintage Big Bottle Winter Beer Tasting

big bottles

Beervana’s first ever, vintage big bottle beer tasting at Saraveza

Thirty lucky citizens of Beervana will get a rare and limited opportunity to try a variety of big bottle vintage beers Tuesday, February 9th at 6:30 pm at Saraveza, 1004 N. Killingsworth St.  This special affair features seven expensive and rare vintage large format bottles as the centerpiece of an evening of vintage beer tasting, beer and food pairing, and education about the beers and the changes they undergo in their mammoth bottles.

The all-star beer lineup features 2006 Chimay Grand Reserve, 2007 Duvel Tripel, 2007 Samichlaus, 2008 St. Bernardus Abt 12, 2008 St. Feuillien Triple, 2007 Unibroue La Fin Du Monde and 2006 Val-Dieu Winter.

With names like Jeroboam, Methuselah and Salmanazar, these three, six and nine liter bottles hold precious cargo from Europe and Canada that has undergone careful cellaring for several years, allowing the beers to mellow and the flavors to blend to reveal subtle nuances that transform these beers into true works of art.

Saraveza owner Sarah Pederson and Chef Spence Lack have created complementary parings to accompany these beers from the cellar of Preston Weesner, including a 15-month-old aged gouda cheese from Willamette Valley Cheese, house crackers and Marcona almonds; cherry smoked black pepper duck sausage with a Chimay beer and prune reduction; and a cider braised lamb and parsnip potato mash pasty with warm spiced butternut squash and pickled garnish.

Tickets are $60 limited to two per person and available only at Saraveza.  For more information, call 503-206-4252 during open hours.  Purchase in person only.
