Recently, they’ve received the ultimate props from Saraveza local favorite, Upright Brewing. You may already recognize Jonathan from behind Saraveza’s bar or as Oregon’s 2009 Bartender of the Year from NW Brewing News. Not only is Jonathan a craft beer guru, he’s an amazing people person, making him a perfect fit for managing Saraveza.
Jonathan started his foray into the world of craft beer at Great Lakes Brewing in Cleveland, Ohio. In Fall 2005, he and his partner, Amber (of the Cascade Barrel House), were drawn to the Pacific NW particularly for its attitude towards life. Shortly after a quick stint at PDX’s Rock Bottom Brewery, local legend Jim Parker scooped up Jonathan to help open New Old Lompoc’s Oaks Bottom; thus beginning Jonathan’s career as a “serial opener” in Portland’s craft beer scene. Since, Jonathan was an original beer tender at the infamous Green Dragon and one of the first employees at Saraveza.
Jonathan and Amber love to spend time with the people they’ve met in Beervana. Through these relationships they are continually reminded why they moved here in the first place and believe that nothing exemplifies this in the same way that the craft beer industry in the Pacific NW does. We’re honored to have Jonathan on staff at Saraveza and know that with his eye for detail and considerate approach, he’ll successfully take care of the customers, staff and beer!

SUN, June 27th, 11AM - 7PM: Saraveza will be hosting a New Belgium Brewing Bike Party featuring a deliciously unprecedented draft lineup from New Belgium’s collaborative “Trip” project with Elysian Brewing in Seattle. All FIVE (!) Trip beers (including the uber-rare Trip I, Trippel IPA) will be flowing, along with New Belgium’s “Eric’s Ale” and “Belgian Blonde” all to be washed down with some tasty snacks from our new Texas smoker, complimentary Belgian Chocolates and NBB giveaways! We’ll have XTRA bike parking for your ride , and some cool art bikes to check out while your here. So, bike on down, soak in the the sun, or chill in the shade! We’ll have all you need (RAIN OR SHINE) in our party tent to quench your thirst and belly once you get here.

THUR, June 24th, from 5PM - 8PM: Full Sail head brewer John Harris is setting up his randall in an effort to usher in summer fun. He’ll be pouring Spotless IPA through the hop machine and serving it side by side FREE Pulled Pork sliders in honor of Saraveza’s brand spankin’ Texas Smoker! Fingers crossed that the sun’s out, so we can wash down the sandwiches with Full Sail’s newly released LTD 3 and special deals on buckets of Session (5 to a bucket) in the warmth of our sidewalk patio. TUES. June 22nd, 6-10pm: “For the Love of Beer” is a documentary devoted to women who are fighting their way to being some of the most influential people in the craft beer industry. Get a sneak peak of the project and drink a few beers! All proceeds go right back into the documentary to further production over the next year. SAT. June 19th, 5pm-close: Brewpublic and Saraveza showcase Oregon’s hard-to-find nanobreweries at Microhopic! What’s a nanobrewery? It’s when the batches of beer produced are very small in comparison to a commercial brewery sometimes only brewing a handful of kegs at a time. At the fest you’ll find local nano-beers and brewers including; Hood River’s Big Horse Brewing (brewer Jason Kahler), N. PDX’s Rivergate Brewing (brewer Brian Frisch), SE PDX’s Mt. Tabor Brewing (brewer Eric Surface) and Hillsboro’s Ambacht Brewing (brewer Tom Kramer).

Sat. July 10 (same day as Mississippi St. Fair): The North Portland Craft Dash is a “good cause” 5k that celebrates the neighborhood and it’s best beer offerings! You’ll have a chance to visit some of the neighborhood’s favorite beer stops while sampling NoPo beers. The race starts at Killingsworth’s The Hop & Vine and ends at Amnesia Brewing’s patio, where you’ll be presented with prizes and a drink ticket for the Mississippi Street Fair.
In signing up for the Craft Dash, you’ll receive a commemorative t-shirt and pint glass, a ticket for a beer at the Mississippi Street Fair Beer garden and beer at each of the five stops on the run. North Portland artist Zach Johnsen is creating the Craft Dash’s commemorative artwork . All proceeds go to North Portland’s Open Meadow Alternative School.

WED. MAY 12th, 6-8pm: Be a part of this annual effort, spearheaded by Walking Man Brewing, that recognizes an Oregon brewing legacy while benefiting the quality of NW beer! We’ll have a tap list only found at Saraveza: Sasquatch Legacy ‘08, ‘09, ‘10 and Jim Caldwell tribute beer, Walking Man Iron Man IPA. With each Sasquatch Legacy Project beer poured, $1 will go to the Glen Hay Falconer Foundation’s Brewing Scholarship Program. Each Legacy dollar raised will be matched by Saraveza and donated to the Caldwell family.
This year’s Legacy is a NW Imp. Oatmeal Porter. Walking Man’s head brewer, Jacob Leonard describes the beer; “Sweet citrus, with dank pine and dark rich chocolate.”
The Iron Man IPA is a VERY hoppy beer made with honey and agave nectar in the kettle. Jim, who was responsible for the beautiful Walking Man iron work and loved tequila and honey, went missing a few months ago.
