Virtue Cider Comes to Portland!

Saturday, June 15, 2013

Virtue Ciders are coming to Portland!
Wednesday, June 26th, at 5:00 PM, join us in tapping and tasting the following from Virtue Ciders:

-The Ledbury: an English-style medium cider. Not too dry, not too sweet, right in the middle. A bit of farminess to the ripe apple nose.

-Sidra de Nava: a Spanish-style summer cider. Lemony nose, dry finish, bracingly tart. A happy cross between cider, dry white wine and fresh squeezed lemonade.

Rob Merollis, our local Virtue Representative, will be in-house to pour samples and talk cider shop.

“Virtue Cider is a Michigan-based craft cider company that uses our expertise in modern craft fermentation and aging techniques to produce ciders that embody old world farmhouse styles. We partner with local family-run farms to find the highest quality heirloom apples for our cider.

Virtue Cider founder Gregory Hall served as the Brewmaster of Goose Island Beer Company from 1991 to 2011. In his two decades of brewing, Hall developed a host of award-winning beers and is hailed as an innovator in the craft beer movement.

Hall first fell in love with cider during a tour of English breweries in 2000. Upon leaving Goose Island, Hall embarked on a pilgrimage of cider study. He toured and tasted at top cider makers in England and France, including an intensive internship at Domaine Dupont in Normandy, France.”  - from Virtue Cider website

Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider Tasting!

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

Calling all cider heads!

Wednesday, May 15th 5pm to 8pm Carolyn Winkler of Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider will be in-house pouring samples and speaking the cider gospel.

We will also be tapping a keg of “Hallelujah Hopricot”.  Here’s a description of this most delicious cider from Reverend Nat himself:  “The making of Hallelujah Hopricot starts with heirloom American apples as a Belgian wit-style cider steeped with coriander, bitter orange peel and paradise grains, fermented with French saison and Belgian ale yeasts. On top of that rich base, I add apricot juice and finish with whole-leaf Cascade and Amarillo hops. A fresh and fruity concoction not dulled by any sweetening, this off-dry cider is my best-seller, and for good reason. ABV 6.9%.”

So come on down and experience “the apple’s deepest purpose realized!”
